Peanut Butter Banana Blender Muffins
If you follow us on Instagram, you probably know that I’m pretty much obsessed with my new Vitamix. No, they are not paying me to promote their product. I am just in love with it. I have a lot of kitchen gadgets, but none that I use as often as this one (because, let’s face it, while I’m in love with my Bosch Universal Plus, I can’t bake 5 pound batches of bread every day). I use my Vitamix at least once a day, and sometimes more. I make smoothies, juices, shakes, soups, and more in it. Recently, I found this muffin recipe that’s so easy, I just have to share it with you. Of course, you don’t need a super high speed awesome Vitamix blender for it, and any immersion blender will do, but hey, if you have one, why not use it? Continue reading
S’mores Ice Cream Sandwiches
Every year I make a big deal out of choosing and baking a special birthday cake. And for a good reason. Every year on December 17th we celebrate two special birthdays, so of course the cake has to be extra amazing! I don’t only do this for my birthday, though. I like baking for everyone’s birthdays! My specialty is delicious layer cakes, not decorated cake mixes or sheet cakes with too much icing. Last year, we had a maple crunch layer cake, which we made by hand and was a hit at our birthday party. This year, though, I thought just baking one cake would be a little boring. So I racked my brain until I figured out what the perfect birthday dessert would be, and settled on these ice cream sandwiches. Chocolate, ice cream, and cookies all in one! What could go wrong?
Lemon and Pistachio Praline and Meringue Torte + Happy First Birthday, Eddie!
Today, my nephew Eddie turns 1! It’s not every day your first baby turns 1, so when Adele asked me to bake a cake for his birthday party, I told her to pick any recipe and I would make it. Adele loves lemon desserts, and she chose this awesome and fancy torte. I told her I’d only make it if I could make another cake, too. I ended up baking vanilla cupcakes so that Eddie and the other small guests would enjoy a dessert, as well.
His birthday party was a little early, because the holidays got in the way of his birthday plans. Which was great for our blogging schedule, because we were able to post this in time for his big day. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, EDDIE! Continue reading
Cronuts
What are cronuts, you ask? Well, really they’re just croissants cut into the shape of doughnuts and fried. And they’re amazing. Really. We made these a while ago, but because of a crazy busy summer we have not had time to post much.
We’ve been hearing about the cronut craze for a while now, but have never been to Dominique Ansel for a real one. We’re pretty sure these homemade, fresh out of the fryer ones are just as good though! Continue reading
Coconut Lemon Bars
I love lemon desserts! They’re tangy and sweet at the same time, and not too rich, like a piece of flourless chocolate cake would be. Plus, every time we go to the fruit store, my son picks up a lemon and just HAS to buy it. This means we have a lot of lemons in the house. So when I was racking my brains for a great summer dessert, of course something with lemons came to mind. Of course, lemon meringue pie was possible, but I wanted something that travels well. While flipping through the “bar cookies and brownies” section of my Bon Appetit Desserts book, I came across this recipe, and was happy to see I had all the ingredients to make the dessert! Decision made. Continue reading
Butterscotch Pie
This is one of the BEST desserts we have ever made. And stephanie and I make a ton of desserts. Let’s just say at a holiday table with about 10 desserts, this one finished. The pictures are from two different times we baked the pie. So that’s why you’ll see two different pie plates and two different kitchens. Continue reading
Coconut Cream Pie
Cream pies are just amazing desserts. I mean, custard, whipped cream, and cookie crusts, how can you go wrong? Well, you can’t. The only thing that’s so confusing is figuring out what kind of cream pie to make. This banana cream pie is a family favorite, but I decided to try something new. I adapted the recipe to make coconut cream pie and it was a huge hit! I’ll definitely be making it again. And very soon, because Zeke just loves banana cream pie. Continue reading
Inaugural Apple Pie
In case you have been missing pies this winter (like rhubarb, cherry or blueberry), or in case you didn’t know what to eat my sour cream ice cream with, I also made the apple pie from President Obama’s inaugural luncheon.
Believe it or not, when I saw these recipes, I called David and told him to invite his friends over for a dinner party, I wanted to make a dessert and needed to invite people over to serve it to so I wouldn’t have to eat it all myself. Do you ever do that?
Banoffee Pie
This is one of the greatest things I’ve ever made. And it was so easy . Semi-homemade, actually. It’s a great dairy dessert for when you don’t have much time to work but want to impress someone. Or, if you’re just in the mood for a great banana dessert but don’t want to go through the process of making a banana cream pie. Continue reading
