I love pouch cooking. Why? Because it’s easily prep-able in the morning, and you can just pop it in the fridge till you get home after a long day of school/work/errands and put it in the oven right before dinner. It makes cooking dinner a breeze! Also, it’s a everything you need for dinner…protein from the fish, veggies mixed in, and usually I add some kind of carb or grain. This time I didn’t, but served it with couscous (takes only 5 minutes to cook), so dinner was ready in no time. Also, individual portions make it harder to eat too much for all those people on diets or doing P90X. Continue reading

Salmon and Israeli Couscous with Herbs and Tomatoes
I don’t think we share enough fish recipes around here. Sure, we recently gave you a sweet and crunchy fish, and a while back posted some salmon, but this recipe is an entire meal in one. And it’s a very different way of cooking salmon (at least I’ve never cooked salmon this way before, have you). I don’t even like tomatoes, and I loved the couscous in this. Continue reading
Spicy Tuna Burgers – August Kosher Linkup
A few years ago, I bought a meat grinder. I was excited to grind my own meat and make burgers and meatballs all the time. Turns out, I didn’t use it much. I don’t really eat that much meat, though I did make these amazing brisket burgers. Then I realized that I can use it for things other than just ground meat. Tuna! Since I’d be grilling these anyway, who cares if I meatify them? So off to the store to buy some amazing tuna. Continue reading
Salad Nicoise
Sometimes, the best lunch is just a big giant salad. But not just a boring lettuce and veggies salad, a delicious one with tons of protein, carbs, veggies, and lots of flavor. So when my mom was having company at the pool, I decided to do just that. A giant salad for lunch. It was easy to make, though it took a while to do all the steps, and was definitely worth it. For dinner I would sear tuna steaks, but for lunch, 2 cans of tuna is perfect.
Moroccan-Style Salmon with Preserved Lemons and a Giveaway!
When Jessica got a copy of Levana Kirchenbaum’s book, The Whole Foods Kosher Kitchen, she immediately sent me this recipe; she knew I’d been looking for ways to use up the meyer lemons I’d preserved this winter. I’ve been a lazy cook this summer, though, relying on old favorites and things that won’t heat up my apartment, so I didn’t make it as quickly as she thought I would.
Sole with Almonds and Panko
We’ve never made sole for you before. Not that you can’t do this with another fish, but the recipe called for sole, and the supermarket has some frozen wild caught kosher sole, so I decided it was fate, I had to make a sole recipe to share with everyone. This is an easy meal, especially if you have fish in the freezer. I loved the sweet and salty taste of the crumb mixture! Sometimes, I just like to have a light dinner, and this fits the bill. Serve it with your favorite vegetable side dish, and that’s dinner!
Soy Sauce Tilapia
Frozen tilapia is a good go-to dinner. You know, on those days that you just don’t have time to make something fancy, but still want a healthy dinner? Make this over some rice and serve with a small salad and you have a full meal in very little time. The original recipe called for striped bass, but I only had tilapia on hand, so I made it this way and loved it. Now I do it like this all the time. When I don’t have scallions, I just skip them. My husband is not a fan, anyway, but he loves the soft onions, so although they’re not a part of the original recipe, sometimes I make a swap. Continue reading
Salmon with Beets and Carrots

You know, I don’t really cook a lot of fish. Unless I’m having company, in which case salmon is my go-to main dish. Obviously, fish is a good dairy main dish for dinner parties, and it also makes a great centerpiece, because look how pretty that big piece of fish looks on top of that bed of root vegetables!
Caesar Roasted Striped Bass
I am always boring when it comes to fish. I always make salmon or tilapia, and don’t often vary the recipes. Well, the first time I saw Ina make this fish, I knew I had to try it. But I didn’t. And then I saw the episode again, and I remembered how badly I wanted to try it last time. And then I saw it yet another time, and still I hadn’t made it. Well, come one random Wednesday night, when I just didn’t know what to make for dinner. And Stephanie wasn’t helping, but she knew she didn’t want anything with tomato sauce (she had red sauce two nights in a row) or meat (since she had meat the night before). Fish it was! And I racked my brain trying to think of some easy (I was cooking in my mom’s kitchen with limited resources) yet delicious fish recipes I heard of recently, and immediately looked this one up. Continue reading
Salmon in Lemon Broth with Pea Puree
When Stephanie sent me this recipe to try, I giggled. And then I knew I had to make it. Pea puree! I decided to make this on my next day off. It’s a perfect Thursday night dinner, in my opinion, and since I already had all the ingredients, except for the salmon, wouldn’t take much thinking (Yes, you should always have peas in your freezer). Also, good thing I live pretty close to a fish store. If I didn’t, who knows if this would have ended up on the menu. We loved this. The broth was lemony and fresh, and really added a nice flavor to the salmon. The pea puree was just delicious, and oh-so-easy. I love peas. They are delicious in a puree. The salmon was great dipped in the puree. Just a good combination altogether.
