Dinner Rolls

This is one of the most beautiful dishes I’ve ever made. And they were really easy! I know a lot of people are scared of yeasted breads, but this one is so impressive when served to guests, especially if you’re making a dinner party, that you should really just try.

Plus, I adapted this hand-kneading recipe to use with a mixer so there’s hardly anything you need to do. I also made it pareve, since I ate it with a meaty stew. I’m sure it would be even more amazing with some melted butter on top, though I love the flavor of a good olive oil. Or, you can dress it up with some herbed oil.

Tokyo Salad with Spicy Peanut Dressing

Salad is usually more of a side dish or appetizer for us; it’s not a meal on its own. Whenever I pack salad to bring to lunch at work, I always end up hungry in the middle of the afternoon. Even if it has a hard-boiled egg in it! This salad is different. Like Jessica’s Salad Nicoise, it stands alone as an entree salad. I love to grill. Even though the weather is getting cold and many people are braising and slow cooking every night. I’m not, I just like cooking outside. But sometimes, you just don’t want meat. Asian Corn Salad

We love corn. And we really love corn salad.

So, when my friend Daniella told me about a great corn salad recipe I had to make, I knew I would make it for Shabbat. The problem? She told me one recipe, and I made a completely different one! Corn Souffle

Salad Nicoise

Sometimes, the best lunch is just a big giant salad. But not just a boring lettuce and veggies salad, a delicious one with tons of protein, carbs, veggies, and lots of flavor. So when my mom was having company at the pool, I decided to do just that. A giant salad for lunch. It was easy to make, though it took a while to do all the steps, and was definitely worth it. For dinner I would sear tuna steaks, but for lunch, 2 cans of tuna is perfect.

Split Pea Burgers

I’ve been on a veggie burger kick lately. They’re just so easy to heat up for lunch. Served on a homemade bun, or on top of a big green salad, they make the perfect midday meal. And while I love store bought ones, they’re expensive and full of preservatives. So I have a repertoire of different veggie burgers in my freezer and pull out whichever one I’m in the mood for. It’s a good system, I suggest trying it.

Quinoa with Beets and Spinach

I’m always looking for new and interesting quinoa recipes. It gets boring to only put roasted vegetables or canned corn with dressing. So when I found a recipe for quinoa with golden beets and raisins, I knew I wanted to try it out, just tweaked a little bit. First of all, I can never find golden beets in the fruit store or supermarket! So I used the regular red ones. Anyway, I like red ones better anyway. Also, the original recipe called for feta cheese. And I don’t like feta cheese, so I left it out. Continue reading
